2015
July 2, 2015
We seem to be having some trouble getting races in. The wind gods will not cooperate, although the warmth gods are finally starting to do their jobs.
The Fourth of July weekend is upon us, so enjoy all that it brings, including the carnie, the parade, the fireworks, friends, family, parties, tourists, motorboats………..not necessarily in that order.
NEW JULY 4TH REGATTA SCHEDULE………..As reported last week, July 4th Regatta races will be on Friday and Sunday…………there will be no races on Saturday in order to avoid what Gil Bovard used to call “stinkboat” waves and traffic.
Friday’s races will follow what we normally do on Saturdays……….that is C’s and X’s at 9:30 a.m., and the rest of the fleets (except the E’s) at 1:30 p.m. Sunday’s race will be at 10:00 a.m for all fleets except the E’s, who will race at their usual 2:00 p.m. start time.
WE HAVE A (NEAR) WINNER…………Mark Tesar was a solid 2nd place overall amongst the 93 MC’s who attended last week’s MC Nationals Regatta at Lake Pewaukee……….until Sunday, when two light and fluky races dropped him to 4th overall. Nonetheless a great result……..congrats Mark.
THE ALL IOWA X BOAT REGATTA………was held this week at Lake Okoboji. A batch of our young X Boaters traveled west to participate. I’ve seen photos, but haven’t heard any results as yet. It’s nice to see the revival of the X Fleets, both on Clear Lake and on Okoboji.
THE 80TH ANNIVESARY GALA………..celebrating CLYC’s past, present and future, is only one weekend away. It’s at the Surf on Saturday, July 11, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The formal registration deadline was this past Monday……..but tickets should still be available if you contact Paula Hanus (641-357-1741).
Enjoy the 4th, Oz
