2017
April 18, 2017
I believe winter has finally departed. We received some fake news that the ice had gone out early in March, which raised our hopes that we were on the verge of an early summer…………no such luck. Mother Nature, in a power play, stared down global warming and made certain that ice-out was at the normal time.
So, the countdown to another sailing season is underway. The Yacht Club board has already had its first meeting, chaired by incoming Commodore Jaime Zachar. We aren’t hosting any big regattas this summer, but there is plenty going on.
GET YOUR CLYC REGISTRATION IN BY MAY 15TH………OR ELSE……Several early birds have already registered, but the rest of us have less than a month to get our Yacht Club registrations in. A registration form is attached to this newsletter for those who like to handwrite checks or who distrust the “interweb.” For the rest, an online trip to the CLYC Web Site (www.clyciowa.com) and a visit to the “2017 Membership Info” tab will allow you to pay by credit card in no time. May 15 is an important deadline, because it gives Denni Erickson just enough time to complete the CLYC Yearbook.
YACHT CLUB SPRING SPRUCEUP…………May 6 at 9:00 a.m. will find your fellow Yacht Club members busily cleaning up the Club. Please make a point of joining in to kick off the CLYC’s 82nd season. You don’t need to bring anything but yourself, and some clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. See you there. Pyros take note…….we are also planning to do a burn of the Rain Garden this spring, so we can reinvigorate it with some healthy plantings………..but it will not be during the Club cleaning……..stay tuned for more information from Margaret Oz on the date for the burn.
AMBER ALERT……….The first party of the season will be Saturday, June 10 at the (cleaned up) Yacht Club. As is our custom, the Social Members will be bringing the hors d’ oeuvres…….which are always the best of the entire season. The Sailing School will also be holding a fundraiser during the party……with more details to come.
SPEAKING OF THE SAILING SCHOOL……………Registrations for sailing school have probably been coming in since the day after Christmas, but there is always time to sign up. Just visit the CLYC Sailing School Web Site (www.clycss.com) to find all the relevant information and registration forms.
Club racing starts in a month and a half, so it’s time to start rummaging around to find your parts, your gear, your sails, and (if you’re truly forgetful) your boat.
Later, Oz
