2020
Past Commodore Bob Swanson passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020. Bob was well known within the CLYC. In addition to serving as commodore, Bob was actively involved throughout his life in the club serving on the board multiple times, co-head of the sailing school, regatta chairman, fleet captain and active volunteer when needed. His sailing career spanned 7 decades beginning in the late 1950s when he sailed his X boat, Z-17 At Last with his brother Dick, many years sailing his C scow and finally an E scow.
Bob’s Commodore’s Comment published in the 1984 CLYC yearbook reads as follows:
In 1984, let’s invite more people to sail. Push off one night each week with someone who’s never been on your type of boat. Take your mother and Uncle Harry for a sail. In June, load up your boat for the Friday fun races, stop by the Yacht Club and see if anyone wants to go out. Don’t forget, your crew has brothers or sisters or family who would like a ride. if you don’t have a sailboat and would like a ride, call me and I’ll get you one. I’ll see you on the Lake.

Indeed. For those of us who knew Bob, we will remember seeing him hoist his sails in the evening of a beautiful summer night on Clear Lake, sharing his love of the lake and sailing with others only to return well after the sun had set. Sail on Bob.
