2015
November 5, 2015
This was going to be a nice little recap of the results of another season of sailing. But given the events of the past couple of weeks, we will begin on a sad note, as ably summed up by our incoming Commodore:
“This is a sad time for the Clear Lake Yacht Club community, and for many of us personally. Many of you may have heard, or seen via the CLYC Facebook page, that both Don Taylor, Sr. and Russ Schurtz have passed away. We have lost two of our greatest supporters and leaders……both were past Commodores. The contributions of these gentlemen to our Club are many; they shared a passion and dedication to sailing, our Club, and our CLYC Sailing School. In addition, they have two wonderful families who are integral members of our Club. To these families, we express our sincere condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.”
Bob Krogh
Commodore, CLYC
Don and Russ, we’re all going to miss you, but at least we can take some comfort in knowing that your legacies will live on through your family members and those of the rest of us whose lives you have touched over the years.

………and, after you all pause for a moment, we’ll run down the honors and awards that were presented at the Year End Banquet
R Lyle Bergo Memorial Trophy (Top X Boat Regatta Performance)
Wil Cooney
Marie O’Brien Alcorn Memorial Trophy (Top Overall Off-Lake Regatta Performance)
Mark Tesar
Tom MacNider Memorial Trophy (CLYC most improved)
Todd Tesar
Loose Anchor Award (Behind the Scenes)
Russ and Ann Schurtz
Charlie Crane Memorial Trophy (Contributions to the CLYC)
Amy Wagler
E Fleet Champion – Jeff Nicholas
MC Fleet Champion – Mark Tesar
M17 Fleet Champion – Marcus Lundberg
X Fleet Champion – Ana Starbeck
Hobie Fleet Champion – Mike Pruchnicki
Youi might have noticed that a few awards are missing from the list. No Juno Awards for each fleet (last place in the last race) are included, because the individuals who receive them pay me handsomely not to disclose their identities. The Blooper Award was “technically” awarded to Stu Oltrogge (who is normally responsible for handing out the award) because of his annoying habit of falling off docks in front of groups of people who are more than happy to rat him out.
Fair Winds and Smooth Sailing until next year,
