What a great summer.  See you next year!

May 2, 2018

Clear Lake’s ice finally went out last Thursday, so it’s time to start thinking about some soft water sailing.  It’s been kind of a brutal, never-ending winter.  Lake Okoboji set a new record for latest ice out…………and most all of the Minnesota lakes are still iced in.  On the other hand, we had a great turnout of volunteers for spring cleaning of the Yacht Club, even though it was only two days after ice out.

MAY 15thIS THE DEADLINE FOR CLYC REGISTRATION………..A registration form is attached to this newsletter that you can complete and send by snail mail.  Or you can do like most do, and register for the 2018 season by visiting the CLYC web site (www.clyciowa.com), clicking on the “2018 Membership Info” tab, and completing your registration online.

The earlier you get your registration in the easier it will be for Emily Oltrogge and Meg Casey to get the Yearbook together………….yes, you heard right……….Emily and Meg have taken over the reins from Denni Erickson.

MEMORIAL DAY REGATTA……….is only a few weeks away, May 26 and 27 to be exact. I wonder how many of us will actually have docks and lifts in by then, given that everyone is at least a month behind this year.

HEADS UP, THE FIRST CLYC PARTY……..is Saturday, June 2…………..details will be forthcoming when I know what they are.

SAVE THE DATES —- INTERLAKES REGATTA IS AT CLEAR LAKE THIS SUMMER……..Registration will be on Thursday, August 2nd, and racing will be Friday, August 3rdthrough Sunday, August 5th. Friday evening dinner will be at the Yacht Club, and Saturday dinner is TBD.  We will need to host most of the visiting sailors in our homes, because it’s the same weekend as the Classic Car Show.  And we’ll be assigning boats to docks for the weekend.

RUMOR HAS IT……….that Brad Price trailed his boat to last weekend’s 2017 E Nationals in Charleston, South Carolina.  No, that’s not a typo, the 2017 E Nationals were actually held in 2018, because last fall’s hurricanes screwed up the schedule.

IF ANYONE HAS AVAILABLE DOCK SPACE……….Ivan Pollock (ipollock@smythco.com) is hoping to sail his 15 foot Bahia Laser with his daughter while his son attends sailing school this summer.  He would like to make arrangements with someone to keep his boat on their dock from June 11 through August 10.  Shoot Ivan an email if you can help him out…………

Later, Oz
