A great turnout, great food and a perfect summer evening……. It all came together, making a memorable first social event of the 2021 season!  Thank you so much to Commodore Chris Long for putting together such an amazing event and Vice Commodore Mike Starbeck for pulling one of his many strings to bring the fantastic eats!  If you weren’t able to attend, you obviously weren’t able to pick up your Yearbook; no worries, these great looking books will be in the mail or hand delivered to your doorstep!

In case you missed the Sailing Center Fundraiser, you can find the website here; A win-win rarely comes along, however, this is it.  You support the Sailing Center and you get some new CLYC logoed apparel; get online and show your support.  Unfortunately the deadline is today (6/10), so make a mad dash for the swag today!

The racing this past weekend was pretty minimal, in fact nonexistent for the E fleet.  Saturday morning was breezy and wavy for the X’s and MC’s, however, PRO Charlie MacNider managed to get two nice races in before mother nature unleashed the BIG breeze……  All the fleets were skunked by the near gale on Sunday…….  We still have plenty of time to make up races this summer, don’t worry.

The Silver Cup……. E and MC sailors; a new form of recognition for those of us not quite at the top!  It seems as though every year we have sailors who make big strides and are just right there on the cusp of local greatness…  This trophy is for you!  The consistent top finishers are not eligible, just us working hard with no hardware to show for it.  Who will accept the challenge and rise to the occasion?!?!

110 boats and counting, Sailing World Magazine coverage, sailors of all calibers from across the country…… This is the 50th MC National Championship Regatta!  This proves just how special the Clear Lake Yacht Club, it’s members, the town and lake really are to host such an enormous event!

Would you like to crew at MC Nationals?!?!  We’ve got an ever growing list of sailors who will be needing crew during the event.  Young by age or young at heart, it doesn’t matter. Please contact Stu Oltrogge, clyciowa@gmail.com to be put on the list of potential crew.

100+ boats on the water racing is going to be a task for the Race Committee; the larger issue………… Getting them all out of the water after the final race………. Members with ATV/UTV/Gator type vehicles; we need your help.  If you’re willing to let us borrow one, willing to bring and drive yours to pull boats out on Sunday (6/27), we want to hear from you!  The easiest way to get all of the boats on trailers and out of the water with plenty of space for everyone is to not allow cars into the parking area as the boats come out.  ATV/UTV’s will pull the trailers and boats out of the water, put them in a predetermined parking spot, they unrig, they go home…… Sounds simple right?  Right…. Some of the X boat kids and parents made a quick run to Okoboji for a clinic being put on by none other than Gordy Bowers.  Most of us older folk know full well who Gordy is and his prowess for coaching; for those that don’t know, check this guy out. Gordy Bowers

The West Water Clinic for the X boaters will immediately follow the MC Nationals! The Sailing Center put on such a great event last year despite the COVID challenge they were asked to hold the event again; and hopefully host the event for years to come!  They’ll have boats coming in from Okoboji and Minnesota lakes in preparation for the X Inland Championships in Wisconsin. Ted Keller of TK Sailing is coming over to coach our sailors on and off the water; it’s so great to have a professional coach like Ted involved with our youth.

Geez, Gordy Bowers and Ted Keller in the same summer!?!?!?!  Nice work CLSC and X boat coordinators for getting that worked out!

Following the two regattas, the excitement continues in Clear Lake.  The Carnies will be in town and open up shop on the 30th of June continuing through the 5th of July; The 2nd Annual Boat Parade will be happening on the 4th of July along the same route as last year; On the 5th of July, the Annual Parade down Main Street.  For more details on all of the local festivities head to www.clearlakeiowa.com

The ILYA Championships are over in Okoboji this year.  Some are planning to make the short trip; let’s help out Okoboji and get as many boats there as we can!  The A’s and MC’s race August 16-18, with the E’s and C’s finishing the week August 19-21.

X Boaters, you guys get to go back over to Pewaukee for the Inland Championship, which runs from July 28-31.  The culmination of many regattas and clinics from what I understand.  Who’s going to be more worn out, the young sailors or the parents and their credit cards?!?!?  Don’t forget kids and parents, you have the pleasure of hosting the ILYA X Championship here in Clear Lake next year!

Camp Olson, a YMCA camp located in Longville, MN is looking for equipment donations of any kind. They are always looking for sails, rigging, parts, sail bags….really anything for an MC, C or E scow! They will provide you with a donation receipt and it is going to a really good organization that is planting the seeds for future sailors here in the upper MW. The Blooper Award… Mind your mistakes…!  After just two short weeks of official YC activity the mistakes have been plentiful and the eyes ever watchful; it seems as though family errors aren’t even safe these days!
